Level I SCMR Workshop: Fundamentals and Clinical Applications of Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (CMR)
Understanding the Clinical Value of CMR
Cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) is a non-invasive imaging technique that provides detailed anatomical and functional information about the heart and its surrounding structures. Unlike other imaging modalities, CMR offers a comprehensive evaluation of both myocardial structure and function without using ionizing radiation.
Clinical Applications of CMR
CMR is particularly valuable in assessing:
- Cardiac structure: Visualization of cardiac anatomy, chamber volumes, and wall thickness
- Cardiac function: Measurement of ejection fraction, stroke volume, and other hemodynamic parameters
- Tissue characterization: Detection and quantification of myocardial fibrosis, scar, and edema
Who Benefits from CMR?
CMR can be beneficial for a wide range of patients with suspected or known cardiovascular diseases, including:
- Patients with ischemic heart disease, including assessment of myocardial viability and risk stratification
- Individuals with infiltrative cardiomyopathies (e.g., amyloidosis, sarcoidosis)
- Patients with inherited cardiomyopathies (e.g., hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, dilated cardiomyopathy)
- Patients with complex congenital heart defects
- Individuals with suspected or confirmed valvular disease
Course Objectives
This Level I SCMR Workshop is designed to provide participants with a thorough understanding of the fundamental principles and clinical applications of CMR. Key topics will include:
- CMR Basics: Understanding the various CMR sequences and their clinical utility
- Clinical Value of CMR: Exploring the unique insights that CMR can provide into cardiovascular health and disease
- Applications of CMR in Specific Conditions: In-depth review of the role of CMR in evaluating infarct imaging, infiltrative cardiomyopathies, inherited cardiomyopathies, valvular disease, and congenital heart defects
- CMR in Complex Cases: Discussing the use of CMR in assessing patients with arrhythmias, implanted devices, and specific lesions
- Case Presentations: Interactive sessions showcasing real-world examples of CMR applications in various clinical scenarios
Target Audience
This workshop is intended for:
- Cardiologists
- Radiologists
- Cardiology fellows
- Radiology residents
- Allied health professionals involved in CMR
Workshop Dates and Location
